A 21-year-old South Lake Tahoe man remains in critical condition this afternoon after being shot in the head Saturday morning at a South Lake Tahoe apartment complex, authorities said.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department responded to the area of 3716 Tamarack Avenue on a report of a possible gunshot heard before 8 a.m.
Around 8:03 a.m. the 21-year-old man was brought to the South Lake Tahoe Fire Station located at Pioneer Trail and Ski Run Boulevard.
The people who brought the victim in reported the person had been shot in the head, said Lt. Marty Hale of the South Lake Tahoe Police Department.
Initial reports were the shooting was "accidental" in nature.
Hale said because the investigation is ongoing, the police department is not calling the shooting "accidental."
"We are still investigating the circumstances," Hale said.
The person who was shot was transported to Barton Hospital and then subsequently flown to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno.
The shooting victim was in critical condition as of Saturday night. His name has not been released.
Investigators learned the victim of the shooting lives in South Lake Tahoe. The weapon involved was a 9mm semi-automatic handgun.
Casey Curci-Crummett, 20, of South Lake Tahoe, was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault with a firearm on a person.
Curci-Crummett is currently being held on charges at the El Dorado County jail on a $30,000 bail, Hale said.
The South Lake Tahoe Police Department continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding this matter.
"We're still moving forward on our investigation. There are some details that are not confirmed," Hale said.
The El Dorado County Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene to help with the investigation because the police department have detectives who are out of the area, Hale said.
