Work to clear a fatal head-on accident at Highway 395 and Ray May Way in the Pine Nut Mountains is under way.

The accident occurred at 2:37 p.m. when a woman driving a 1991 GMC sport utility vehicle south tried to pass a commercial vehicle in the no passing zone, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol.

Trooper Chuck Allen said the woman pulled out into the path of a northbound 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee containing two people and six dogs.

The male passenger in the Cherokee was killed along with four of the dogs. Allen said two flatbed trucks are en route to the scene of the accident and will move the vehicles out of the roadway.

"We want to open at least one lane as quickly as possible," he said.
