This is a healthy appetizer with a unique Asian flavor.

Asian Ribs

2 lbs. Short pork ribs

6 cups water

1 tablespoon chicken stock base

1 tablespoon Chinese five spice powder

1 tablespoon minced garlic

1 tablespoon soy sauce

4 five-star Anise pods

1 tablespoon chopped cilantro

1 tablespoon chopped green onions

I use a wok for this recipe, but a heavy sauce pan or Dutch oven would both work well.

Cut ribs into single ribs.

Place in wok or heavy sauce pan.

Add water, stock, five spice, minced garlic and soy sauce.

Bring to a boil.

Reduce to simmering and continue to cook, stirring occasionally until liquid is reduced (should take approximately 2 hours).

Remove ribs from wok, garnish with chopped cilantro and green onions.

Serve when hot or warm.
