Peter Kostes, Sierra Nevada Media Group regional editor and former Nevada Appeal associate publisher, has been named interim publisher of the Appeal.

For the past year, Kostes has served a dual role as regional editor and lead for Swift Communications' company-wide effort to integrate print and online newsgathering operations. He was Appeal associate publisher from 2003-07.

Previously, Kostes was publisher at The Record-Courier in Gardnerville and the Sierra Sun in Truckee.

Kostes replaces John DiMambro, who has left the company. DiMambro had been publisher since 2003. He also served as Appeal associate publisher for one year and regional general manager from 2005-07.

Scott McElhaney, Sierra Nevada Media general manager, made the announcement Friday.

"We appreciate all of John's efforts to improve the Nevada Appeal and make it successful," McElhaney said. "We wish him well in the future."

The Nevada Appeal is the largest newspaper in the Sierra Nevada Media Group, consisting of seven newspapers and associated Web sites in Truckee, Tahoe City, South Lake Tahoe, Incline Village, Gardnerville, Carson City and Fallon. All are operated in their respective communities and printed at the Appeal's production plant at 580 Mallory Way in Carson City.

Sierra Nevada Media, part of Reno-based Swift Communications, also operates Tahoe.com and Reno.com.
