John M. Hughes, 63, passed away peacefully and unexpectedly on January 24, 2008 at his home in Dayton. He was born in Jersey City, N.J. on September 12, 1944.

John was preceded in death by his parents Helen and John (Jim) Hughes. He is survived by his sister Joan Murphy, her four children and many great and grand nieces and nephews. John was raised in North Arlington, N.J. and served 4 years in the United States Air Force after graduating from Seton Hall University in South Orange, N.J.

In 1973 John began his career in law enforcement and served with the West Orange, N.J. Police Department until 1976 when he joined the Aurora, Colo. Police Department. He retired from the Aurora Police after serving 24 years as a dedicated patrol officer and detective.

John moved to Dayton, Nevada in 2001 where he made many new friends, golfed and enjoyed playing in the weekly Black Jack Tournaments.

Services and burial of the remains will occur in New Jersey at a future date. He will be missed by all who knew him.
