It was another great success for Advocates to End Domestic Violence at the Taste of Carson City, thanks to the community, all those who purchased tickets, the volunteers and, of course, the amazing restaurants that played a huge role. It was great to see everyone having a wonderful time. I had the best time hanging out with Ralph Swagler, owner of Locals BBQ, serving samples. His restaurant won "Best Taste."

If you haven't tried these restaurants, you should. It's a tease to get a sample at the Taste of Downtown, but you can always stop on in and enjoy these local establishments.

The results are:

Best Atmosphere: Firkin & Fox -- loved the fire pit.

Best Overall: B'Sghetti's, always a treat.

Best Discovery: Alyssa's Eclectic Desserts. Now I didn't get over there, but I can tell you I heard it was unbelievably tasty. Sweet!

Best Band: Tahoe Dance Band, and Best Shop Due Sorella Ð Two Sisters.

Here's why the Taste fundraiser is so important. In June, Advocates assisted in 97 protective order applications, 40 stalking orders and 57 temporary protective order applications. They accompanied 1,120 victims to all their hearings and trials.

If you're interested in observing or donating your time, call the court advocates at 884-1886. You can get more information at www.aedv.org. Thanks to all of you once again for supporting this life- changing organization. Special thanks to Firkin & Fox, Mom & Pop's, Qdoba Mexican Grill, Red's Old 395 and Starbucks in choosing to forgo payment and donating all proceeds back to Advocates to assist the victims of Domestic Violence.
