Mrs. Jane McGowan, one of the oldest residents of Empire, died at her home. Mrs. McGowan had been a resident of Empire since its palmy days, having lived there for 22 years.

A new $18 million public safety complex is pending approval by residents of Carson City. If passed, property taxes on a $100,000 house would increase by $127 according to Kit Weaver, Carson City Assessor.

The front of a vacant Radio Shack store caught fire and caused two other businesses to shut down for 30 minutes. Baskin-Robbins 31 Flavor customers and Panda Kitchen, both located next door to the Highway 50 East store were evacuated while the fire department put out the flames Ð cause was electrical.
