Less smoke, more heat and thunderstorms in forecast

Today's weather will be sunny in the morning with less smoke then becoming partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon with highs 87-97 and light winds becoming east around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Tonight, partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms, lows 53-63 with east winds up to 10 mph.

Saturday, partly cloudy with isolated thunderstorms in the afternoon with highs 88-98 and light winds becoming southeast around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday night, partly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms, lows 54-64 with southwest winds around 10 mph.

Sunday, partly cloudy in the morning becoming mostly cloudy with a slight chance of thunderstorms in the morning, then scattered thunderstorms in the afternoon with highs 87-97 with west winds up to 10 mph shifting to the southwest in the afternoon.

Road work continues in Carson City with areas of delays, mainly Fairview Drive between Roop Street and South Lompa Lane, primarily between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., and Highway 50 East between Airport Road and Saliman Road.

The closure of westbound Fairview Drive from Saliman Road to Roop Street is in effect through Aug. 31. Alternate routes of travel are Colorado Street to the south, and Little Lane to the north.

Traffic will be controlled at times; alternate routes are advised.

The Nevada Department of Transportation reports at 6:05 a.m. all roads open with no controls.
