Carson swimmers sweep Fallon

The Carson High boys and girls swim teams swept to wins over Fallon on Friday at the Carson Aquatic Facility.

Carson won the boys meet 172-90 while the Senators won the girls meet 181-72. Douglas also faced Lowry on Friday with the Douglas girls beating Lowry 174.50-107.50 and Lowry beating the Tiger boys 170-29.

For the Carson boys, Jacob Cornwell, Garrett Clayton, Kevin Dyer and Matt Grunert won the 200-yard medley relay in one minute, 49.06 seconds. Cornwell and Nick Schlager also finished 1-2 in the 200 free with Cornwell winning in 1:56.50.

Clayton and Paul Chang went 1-2 in the 200 individual medley for Carson as Clayton won in 200 I.M. In addition, the Senators went 1-2 in the 50 freestyle as Luke Gentner won in 24.60 and Ashton McIntosh took second.

Dyer and Albert Reed went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly as Dyer won in 1:01.01. In the 100 free, Carson swept the top three positions with Grunert first in an excellent early-season time of 49.95, with Cornwell second and Gentner third.

Dyer won the 500 free in 5:19.38 while Reed took second. In the 200 free relay, Schlager, Chang, Gentner and Clayton won in 1:38.95. In the 100 backstroke, Grunert won in 59.90 and Schlager was second.

In the 100 breaststroke, Clayton won in 1:04.15 and Chang was second. Carson finished off its sweep of the relays as Chang, Cornwell, Dyer and Grunert won the 400 free relay in 3:34.19.

In diving, Carson's Kurt Anderson won with 189.55 points.

For Carson's girls, Jill Stroup, Jamie Showalter, Tatum Boehnke and Beth Lewis won the 200 medley relay in 2:07.50. Boehnke won the 200 free in 2:08.42 while Showalter and Julia Lapham went 1-2 in the 200 I.M. Showalter won in 2:37.16.

In the 50 free, Carson swept the first four places as Lewis won in 27.70. Ashley Smith was second, Carrie Linn was third and Nicole Updegrove was fourth.

In the 100 fly, Boehnke won in 1:05.72 while Smith and Jessica Howell went 1-2 in the 100 free. Smith won in 1:09.09.

Lewis and Showalter went 1-2 in the 500 free with Lewis winning in 5:56.42. In the 200 free relay, Annalise Dankworth, Howell, Julianne Perkins and Bayley Root won in 2:17.86.

In the 100 back, Carson went 1-2-3 as Stroup won in 1:14.38. Lapham was second and Nadine Wemheuer was third.

Carson also went 1-2-3 in the 100 breaststroke as Root won in 1:38.67. Carolina Stahl was second and Amanda Gordon was third. Kim Winder won the diving as well for Carson.
