A question to raise property taxes to fund $8 million in staff and equipment for the Carson City fire and sheriff's departments will not be on the ballot in November.
City supervisors turned down the idea 2 to 3 of even putting the proposal on the 2010 ballot.
The property tax increase would have cost the owner of a $250,000 home about $200 extra a year.
Supervisors who voted against the idea said the bad economy is not a good time for the increase.
The fire and sheriff's departments said the extra money was not only necessary to keep up with the growing city, but was needed years ago.
