A Carson City man died over the weekend following a head-on collision late Friday on Highway 50 West near Glenbrook.

David Fried, 54, of Carson City, died Saturday night at Renown Regional Medical Center from injuries sustained in the 11 p.m. Friday night accident eight miles east of the Nevada and California state line near Logan Creek Estates.

According to Nevada Highway Patrol Trooper Chuck Allen, Fried was driving a 2004 Dodge Neon eastbound on Highway 50 West when he crossed the center line and drove into the westbound path of a 2009 Saturn SUV driven by Duane Ward, 56, of Las Vegas.

Fried, with critical injuries, and Gabriele Ward, 49, a passenger in the Saturn with minor injuries, were both taken by helicopter to a Reno hospital.

Duane Ward was not injured, said Allen.

Allen said Fried "displayed signs of intoxication" at the scene of the accident.

Witnesses to the crash, or anyone with additional information, are encouraged to call Trooper Kris Satterwhite at (775) 689-4682 regarding case # NHP-0811071620.
