It no longer draws its sustenance from the source of life and health - the aspirations of the honest hearts of the toilers and producers of the land. It has fallen under the control of the money power, trusts and monopolies. It is manipulated in the interest of the world's pawnbrokers and extortioners. Its future reliance is upon the cohesive power of public plunder supplemented by boodle.

70 years ago

At 10:30 o'clock this forenoon students and faculty members of the University of Nevada assembled to pay tribute to the late Clarence Hungerford Mackay, who died Saturday night at his home in New York City. Students and faculty mourned the passing with sincere grief at the passing of the institution's greatest benefactor.

50 years ago

Mesdames Keith Macdonald, Charles Martin and Bud Howard were initiated into the Beta Sigma Phi sorority at the home of Mrs. Warren Williams. Officiating the ritual was Mrs. James Duensing, president.

20 years ago

Nevada Savings and Loan Association will become PriMerit Bank effective tomorrow and a reception will be held at branches in Carson City and Gardnerville, according to Kenny C. Guinn, chairman and chief executive officer. It is the state's largest savings institution, with assets of $2.75 billion.
