David Carroll, Kevin Rogers, Cavin Hill and Kyle DiMartino all combined on a one-hitter for the Western Nevada College baseball team as the Wildcats salvaged a split of a doubleheader in two scrimmages played on Friday against Feather River College at John L. Harvey Field.

Jay Skilton also went 4-for-4 in the nightcap in which WNC won 8-1. Feather River, which featured several local players, won the opener 6-0 as Rob Cline and Daniel Doty helped combine on a three-hit shutout for the Golden Eagles.

Feather River featured an all-Douglas High outfield in the opener as Phil Mannelly started in left field, Niko Saladis started in center and Cory Eilers started in right. In the second game, Saladis started in center again and Carson High gradaute David Leid started at catcher for Feather River.

In the nightcap, WNC jumped out to a 7-0 lead in the first inning as the Wildcats took advantage of four hits, three walks, a hit batsman and an error during the rally. Eric Maupin hit a two-run single, Skilton had an RBI single and Daniel Zylstra and Jerome Pena each added a hit during the rally.

Carroll allowed one run without the benefit of a hit in the second as Feather River scored on a walk, wild pitch, sacrifice bunt and RBI sacrifice fly. Carroll pitched two hitless innings.

Brett Wellman hit an RBI single in the third to give WNC an 8-1 lead. Rogers didn't allow a hit over two innings, striking out two.

Hill allowed Feather River's only hit, a double, while pitching two scoreless innings and DiMartino finished up as the two teams played two eight-inning contests. DiMartino pitched two scoreless innings, striking out two. Mike Long and Wellman each had two hits and Trevor Goff added a hit for WNC.

In the opener, WNC starter Josh Moody allowed just one hit over three innings, but the hit was an infield single that scored a run to give Feather River a 1-0 lead in the third.

The Wildcats had a chance to take the lead in the second when Marshall Kennebrew led off with a double. But Kennebrew was stranded at third with one out as Cline got a groundout and strikeout to escape the jam.

Cline, who pitched four scoreless innings, also worked around another leadoff double by Kennebrew in the fourth. After Kennebrew stole third with one out, Cline got two groundouts to escape the jam.

Javy Perez was outstanding on the mound for WNC as he allowed just one hit, an infield single, over three scoreless innings.

Jake Waardenburg came on in the seventh and allowed an RBI single as Feather River took a 2-0 lead. WNC had another chance to score in the seventh after Mike Long doubled and advanced to third on a flyball. Zylstra walked to give the Wildcats runners at first and third with one out, but WNC failed to score.

Feather River touched Waardenburg for four runs, three earned, in the eighth to take a 6-0 lead. Doty pitched a scoreless bottom of the eighth for the Golden Eagles.

The two teams will play again at noon Sunday at Feather River.
