Nevada's relevant ... now bring on the candidates

The country's political superstar-of-of the moment is scheduled to come to Carson City on Saturday, and it's no accident.

Nevada is a toss-up when it comes to the presidential election, and - who knows - its electoral votes could determine the next president (and vice president) of the United States.

That's why local residents will get to hear Sarah Palin first-hand at Mills Park. It may also mean the other candidates are on their way.

Nevada voters, you ought to be feeling special.

As for Palin's visit, it could be just what the state's anemic Republican Party needs ... what's good for McCain/Palin is good for the state party, which has won eight of the past 10 presidential elections.

And we're certain that there will be plenty of Democrats and undecided voters in the audience on Saturday, drawn by the charisma that Palin has brought to the race.

Ultimately, this could turn out to be more than a presidential race. It could be a battle for the political future of Nevada. A Democratic Party that not long ago was barely relevant is now resurgent, and U.S. Rep. Dean Heller's race against Democrat Jill Derby is expected to be much closer this time around.

We'll see you on Saturday.
