RENO " A Reno couple is facing fraud charges after police say they found stolen mail and check-altering chemicals in their hotel room.
Laurie Veselka, 42, and Eric Randall Padgett, 18, were arrested Tuesday on multiple charges of possession of a forged instrument.
Investigators say the mail was stolen from city mailboxes in Reno and Carson City.
Authorities say the two were arrested after security at the Eldorado Hotel and Casino noticed their car on the 10th floor in the parking garage and believed it was abandoned.
When authorities checked their room, police said they found a large amount of stolen checks that were washed, or altered with chemicals to erase the ink so they could be rewritten.
