Monte Fast has spent years helping others in his community.

Tonight at the Governor's Mansion, members of the community will do their best to give a little something back to the retired director of Friends In Service Helping.

Fast led the charitable group for decades.

Tuesday, there will be a reception and dinner in his honor at the Governor's Mansion beginning at 5:30 p.m. The cost is $25 per person for dinner, or $125 for those who want figuratively to sit at "Monte's Table." Proceeds will endow a scholarship in his name for students at Western Nevada College and provide a gift for Monte and his wife, Billie. Reservations can be made at 882-3474 (882-FISH).

Fast decided to retire this spring after 20 years at the helm of FISH. His replacement was his son, Jeff Fast.
