Two arrested in Ranchos sand pit fracas

A fracas at the Gardnerville Ranchos sand pits resulted in three arrests on Tuesday night.

An estimated 15 people ranging in age from 16 to 23 years old were involved in an altercation at about 9 p.m.

Undersheriff Paul Howell said there were multiple instances of simple battery and one case of battery with a deadly weapon when one of the combatants hit another in the head with a rock.

The adults arrested at the scene were Gardnerville Ranchos residents Addison Orr, 19, for an alternative sentencing violation and Angela Verbanc, 20, for disorderly conduct and minor consuming alcohol. A 16-year-old was arrested for minor consuming.

Howell said a shotgun was discharged from a car window, but didn't strike anyone.

"It was fired in the air, apparently to scare people," Howell said.

Two adults and a juvenile were booked as a result of the incident.

Deputies confiscated the shotgun and other charges may be pending resulting from its being fired.

No one was hospitalized as a result of the incident.
