City vs. Timothy Corpy, accused of making unusual night time noises in the street, was found guilty. He was let go on his own recognizance until tomorrow, when he will hear sentencing. Judging from his conduct in court, an insane asylum would be more proper.

100 YEARS AGO

What kind do they drink? An empty whiskey barrel on the sidewalk in front of Prater's store in Virginia came near sending four young men to the happy hunting grounds. Four men were talking when one of them leisurely lit a cigarette and threw the lighted match into the bung hole. In a few minutes the barrel exploded, one end going straight through the balcony over the sidewalk.

70 YEARS AGO

William Jackson, wanted in the killing of an old prospector for a few dollars, was apprehended by Sheriff Matt Penrose of Lyon County. The alleged accomplice was sentenced two years ago to life where he is serving time now. The arrest was made while Jackson was driving into Yerington from Fallon.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City was hotter and drier than usual in July. Total precipitation was one-tenth of an inch on July 14. Mean temperature was 73.6 degrees, 3.8 above average. Highest temperature was 101. The temperature hit 90 on the ninth and stayed above that every day, except one day, for the remainder of the month.

20 YEARS AGO

Former Nevada Sen. Chic Hecht is sworn in as U.S. Ambassador to the Bahamas by President Bush.

10 YEARS AGO

The looming seizure of the Mustang Ranch brothel by federal officials may have a radical response - the outlawing of brothels in the county.
