Former Virginia City High School drama teacher Bill Beeson pleaded guilty Tuesday to the gross misdemeanor charge of solicitation of a minor to engage in acts constituting a crime against nature.

He faces up to a year in jail and a $2,000 fine when sentenced Oct. 16 in Storey County Court. He also will have to register as a sex-offender.

The drama teacher was placed on administrative leave in May 2007 after a student accused Beeson of inappropriately touching him.

In August 2007, he was fired from the Storey County School District.

Beeson was arrested in January 2008 on sexual assault charges, including accusations from former students going back to the 1990s.

He was arrested again in May 2008 for allegedly violating court-ordered conditions of his release by being in the company of a 16-year-old male.

He pleaded not guilty in October 2008 to one count of felony sexual assault and one count of gross misdemeanor unlawful contact with a child.

Tuesday's guilty plea came as a result of a deal in which prosecutors agreed not to pursue any charges from accusations prior to April 2007.

Deputy District Attorney Laura Grant said she was pleased with the deal.

"I think we have made a victim whole," she said Tuesday. "We're satisfied justice was served in this case."
