Organizers are still seeking vendors for the community flea market at 8 a.m. Aug. 22 in the parking lot of NV 50 in Mound House.

The fee is $10 per vendor space, which will benefit the development of the Dayton Valley Dog Park.

Call 246-7909 to reserve your space.

The BLM has leased 2.6 acres at the northeast corner of Old Dayton Valley Road and Como Road to build the Dayton Valley Dog Park for Lyon County, eastern Carson City and Virginia City.

The purpose of the park is to provide a safe enclosed park for dog owners to socialize and exercise their dogs during daylight hours.

The first phase this year will include fencing, special entrance gates, cement walks, parking facilities, drinking fountains and trees.

Work is scheduled to begin in September and the park will open later in the fall. The park will be developed in two phases over two years.

A stimulus grant from the Nevada Department of Employment, Training and Rehabilitation will cover the first year's construction.

Fallon/Fernley Industries will provide workers in training for two years.

This is the third fundraising event this year. The next focus of the Dayton Valley Dog Park will be an appeal to the community to buy or donate funds for trees for the park.
