There's a new hot dog shop in town.

Mike and Jan Gribble opened the K9 Dog House Gourmet Hot Dogs on Monday on Retail Drive in north Carson City.

Mike Gribble went into the hot dog business earlier this year with Finx Gourmet Hot Dogs on North Carson Street, but wanted to have a bigger place with better parking. So he parted ways with his partner in that venture and went looking for a space that would fit his vision.

"We wanted to find a place that worked for us," he said. "It took about three months to find a place, and by the grace of God, they came looking for us."

Their new store was formerly Mr. Pickles sandwich shop, and didn't need much work to get in shape, other than some paint to change pickle-colored walls to red and white. And Gribble said the property manager helped them get set up, and even provided some of the equipment.

The restaurant has table seating, which helps create the atmosphere the couple was aiming for.

"We are looking to do not so much fast food, but a diner experience, where you can come in and relax, listen to the music, have a quiet lunch and enjoy yourself," Gribble said.

There also are plans to do show 'n' shine car events in the parking lot on Saturday nights.

But one thing they kept the same was the menu, though they are considering adding to it after they get the business off the ground.

"It's a blessing, and I think it will work out real well, because people are still out there looking for us," he said.
