Chris Perry, the colonel in charge of the Nevada Highway Patrol since 2006, has been promoted to deputy director of the Department of Public Safety.

He has been with NHP since 1982 when he started as a trooper in Las Vegas. He replaced Phil Brown, who retired.

Perry will be replaced by his top deputy Tony Alamarez, a 22-year veteran of the department.

Public Safety Director Jerry Hafen said Pat Conmay will take the position as chief of Capitol Police, replacing Brad Valladon, who retired. Conmay worked 25 years with the Los Angeles Police Department, retiring as a lieutenant in 1998.

In addition, Jean Gagnon will become chief of training and John Stewart deputy chief of investigations. Gagnon spent 16 years training U.S. military and police personnel, including troops being deployed to active combat duty in the Middle East.

Stewart has been with the department since 1985 and most recently served as deputy chief of southern and central commands in the investigations division.
