Austin's House

foster care recruitment

A recent statement printed in the opinions area of the Nevada Appeal concerning the possible closure of the only children's shelter left in this area since Volunteers of America shut their doors is a reality check for the entire community.

Conrad Buedel who is on the board of directors for Austin's House makes me realize that we so easily look the other way when it comes to helping youth. Conrad stated "I am asking for a lot but there is no better cause than saving a young life. I hope that you agree."

I can personally tell you many children are waiting for homes. I am not analyzing why their parents can't assist. In most cases, I really think the reasons are insignificant in your decision to change a life, to give an opportunity of love, encouragement, conversation, warm meals great holidays and most importantly, to watch a child thrive in a safe environment. Becoming a foster parent is a blessing and a gift in one great package. You can talk all you want about becoming foster parents, and keep putting it off, but if you are truly interested and love children it only takes one phone call to change a child's future.

Open your home and share your joys and memories with a child and, like Conrad said, "There is no better cause than saving a young life." I guarantee the rewards of giving a child a home is amazing.
