Bruins breeze to win

BOSTON (AP) - Mark Recchi scored twice in the final three minutes, and Tuukka Rask stopped 32 shots for Boston, which opened a three-goal lead and held on to beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 5-2 on Thursday night.

Mark Stuart, Derek Morris and David Krejci scored to give the Bruins a 3-0 lead after two periods. Mikhail Grabovski and Nikolai Kulemin had goals in the third to cut Toronto's deficit to 3-2, but Recchi scored with 2:37 to play and then added an empty netter with 12 seconds left to clinch it.

Vesa Toskala made 29 saves for Toronto, which lost 7-2 in Boston on Saturday night.

The Bruins improved to 8-1-1 in the last 10 games and took over first place in the Northeast Division.

Senators 2, Flyers 0

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Brian Elliott made 22 saves in his second NHL shutout and Nick Foligno and Jesse Winchester scored third-period goals to give Ottawa a victory over slumping Philadelphia.

Foligno broke the scoreless deadlock midway through the third period, and Winchester sealed the victory with a short-handed, empty-net goal in the final minute.

It was the first shutout this season for the Senators, who have two wins in their past six games.

The Flyers were blanked for the third time in six games. They are 1-3 under new coach Peter Laviolette, who replaced the fired John Stevens a week ago after Philadelphia's two consecutive shutout losses.

Philadelphia has scored only 11 times in seven games, and six came in a 6-2 victory over the New York Islanders on Tuesday.

Penguins 3, Canadiens 2

MONTREAL (AP) - Pascal Dupuis scored on a slap shot 13:21 into the third period and Marc-Andre Fleury made 19 saves as Pittsburgh stopped Montreal's three-game winning streak.

Sergei Gonchar had a goal and an assist, and Matt Cooke also scored for the Penguins, who had lost two in a row since becoming the first team to reach 20 wins this season.

Price stopped 38 shots for Montreal, which had won three in a row after a 5-1 victory over Boston on Friday in the Canadiens' 100th anniversary game.

Matt D'Agostini and Roman Hamrlik scored on Montreal's first and third shots of the second period as the Canadiens took a 2-1 lead. The Canadiens had been outshot 9-0 midway through the frame and 20-7 overall before they broke through.

Montreal was outshot 41-21 in the game.

Predators 4, Blue Jackets 3, SO

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Steve Sullivan scored the winning goal in the fifth round of the shootout to lift Nashville over Columbus.

The Predators have defeated the Blue Jackets 13 consecutive times at home. Columbus hasn't won in Nashville since April 3, 2006.

Sullivan beat goalie Mathieu Garon with a wrist shot under the goalie's pad for the winner. Garon had won an NHL-record 13 consecutive shootouts.

Dave Scatchard, who had missed five games because of an upper body injury, gave the Predators a 1-0 at 11:03 of the first period. Martin Erat and Jason Arnott scored in the second period for Nashville.

Blue Jackets defenseman Kris Russell and Raffi Torres also scored in the second, and Rick Nash tied it in the third for Columbus.

Canucks 4, Thrashers 2

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Daniel Sedin scored Vancouver's first three goals, and the Canucks held on to beat Atlanta.

Sedin opened the scoring on a wraparound 3:09 in, and deflected in his second goal with 1:22 left in the first period. He got a break for his hat-trick goal 1:39 into the second, when Atlanta forward Nik Antropov accidentally tipped Sedin's backdoor pass to twin brother Henrik Sedin into the net.

Mason Raymond also scored, and Roberto Luongo made 23 saves as the Canucks kicked off an eight-game homestand by snapping a two-game losing skid.

Colby Armstrong and Antropov, on a power play, scored for the Thrashers. Atlanta dropped the final three games of a four-game road trip.

Kings 3, Coyotes 2, SO

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Oscar Moller and Jack Johnson netted first-period goals, Justin Williams scored in the eighth round of a shootout, and Los Angeles capitalized on the absence of suspended Phoenix defenseman Ed Jovanovski in a victory over the Coyotes.

The Coyotes answered the first three times the Kings scored in the shootout, but Jonathan Quick denied Scottie Upshall after Williams' goal. Quick had 28 saves for the Kings, who got first-period goals from Oscar Moller and Johnson to snap the Coyotes' five-game winning streak.

Radim Vrbata scored the tying goal for Phoenix during a power play with 16:48 left in regulation. Upshall also scored, and Ilya Bryzgalov made 28 saves.
