Carson wrestlers win another tournament title

SPARKS - Carson High's wrestling team pulled out of the Elk Grove Tournament because of bad weather, and was fortunate enough to be invirted to the Reed Roundup.

The Senators won five straight duals to win its second tournament title of the young season. Carson beat Sparks (66-10), McQueen (70-0) and Truckee (58-18) in pool action. The Senators then beat other pool winners, knocking off Reed 64-15 and Douglas 50-30.

Seven Carson wrestlers went 5-0 - Pat Craugh (103, 2 pins), Cole McCarthy (112, 3 pins), Ricky Ugarte (125, 1 pin), Nick Schlager (135, 3 pins), Nicolas Garcia (152, 3 pins), Junior Valladares (171, 3 pins) and Luke Carter (189, 4 pins).

Jordan Luhrs (140), Justin Otero (145) and Justin Barlow (heavyweight) all went 4-1.

"It was a good tournament," said coach Tim McCarthy. "We wrestled well. I'm proud of the guys.

"It was good to get some matches in before the big one (Tournament of Champions) next Friday and Saturday."
