Soroptimist International of Carson Valley, a volunteer organization for business and professional women, presented $100,000 to the Carson Tahoe Regional Healthcare Foundation on Monday for the Cancer Center's capital campaign. The donation culminates a five-year fundraising commitment.

"We believe our achievement in raising a remarkable $100,000 in these economic times is a reflection of the generous nature of our Gardnerville, Minden and Genoa communities, with whom we raised the money through a series of fundraisers," said Cindy White, president of Soroptimist Inter-national of Carson Valley.

"The community supported these events and were especially motivated to participate when they learned that local cancer patients would benefit."

The club raised the funds through projects like calendar and cookbook sales, and program ads in the club's annual Savor the Flavor event, next scheduled for Feb. 27. In the past two years, the club also designated a percentage of its overall service funds to achieve its goal on time.

Soroptimist International of the Comstock, representing Dayton and Virginia City, contributed $5,000 toward the total funds raised for the cancer center.
