"Have you heard of the ghost of Bold Gulch my boy, that flickers and flies in the midnight wild?" Fighter, and poet Pat Holland, most recently from Pioche and now from Bodie is in town in the Appeal offices with his huge "gun," a genuine flintlock relic that hasn't fired since Mexican War days.

100 YEARS AGO

The grand jury has met. Their recommendations say that the poor farm is in perfect condition, but many other buildings are in need of repair. Kings Canyon Road, having been washed out in recent storms needs replacement. Clear Creek is in good shape, but in need of minor repairs.

70 YEARS AGO

It was interesting this afternoon to see the large number of birds in front of the barber's shop of Angelo Bernadini. The birds know their friend and are eager to feed.

50 YEARS AGO

The body of Walter Washington (Old Reb) Williams, last veteran of the Civil war, was laid to rest in Houston today. He was 117.

20 YEARS AGO

Governor Bob Miller said he has offered legislators technical studies showing why a state prison for women north of Nellis Air Force Base is not a good location for a prison.

10 YEARS AGO

Vandals destroyed Christmas decorations at an east Carson home, upturning plastic toy soldiers, breaking Christmas lights and bending the head of a metal reindeer. Officials say Christmas vandalism is rare compared to the rest of the year.
