130 YEARS AGO

The Kindergarten Cantata so long in preparation will be given this evening at the Carson Theater. The preparation of this juvenile cantata, which is called "An Hour in Fairyland," is under the direction of Misses Babcock and Parkinson. The place will be undoubtedly crowded at an early hour.

100 YEARS AGO

The finest church in the state, the Catholic Cathedral in Reno, was destroyed by fire last night. The fire, started in an adjacent theater, quickly spread to the interior of the church. Firemen were at a loss, because they did not have enough fire hose. St. Thomas Aquinas was dedicated June 21, 1908, as the most imposing structure in the state.

70 YEARS AGO

Manager "Pat" Sanford at the Carson Theatre has cause for complaint. A number of boys have taken great delight in carving on theater seats during picture shows.

50 YEARS AGO

Nevada State Prison's "Boys in Blue" won their second basketball game Friday night against C & K Trailer Sales after downing the Carson City 20-30 club the prior night. The trailer crew beat the prison crew by four points earlier this year.

20 YEARS AGO

Warren Engine Co. No. 1 is holding a New Year's Eve Ball at the Carson City Community Center.

10 YEARS AGO

Road fatalities are a little less lethal than they were in 1998. Three persons were killed in three accidents, well below the average of six per year over the past 10 years. Statewide, deaths were down from 361 to

339.
