Volunteers who can give four to six hours per week for 12 weeks will find a warm welcome at the AARP Tax-Aide Program.

Last year, Nevada volunteers helped more than 18,000 low- to middle-income and senior clients with their federal returns at more than 50 AARP Tax-Aide sites across the state including Carson City, Dayton, Fernley, Minden, Gardnerville, Reno, Sparks and Yerington. On a national basis, volunteers assisted more than 2.8 million taxpayers.

Volunteers do not need to be an AARP member or retiree to participate. AARP Tax-Aide volunteers receive free tax training and are reimbursed on a limited basis for qualified program-related expenses. They help taxpayers at sites around the state while learning new skills and giving back to countless communities. The training will start Jan. 4.

Dayton Local Coordinator Tom Miller, said he needs at least one more volunteer for the AARP Tax-Aide Program at the Dayton Senior Center.

The Tax-Aide Program is administered by the AARP Foundation in co-operation with the Internal Revenue Service. The Program will run at the Dayton Senior Center on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:30-

4 p.m. starting the week of Feb. 8 through the week of April 8.

Anyone interested in this opportunity or looking for more information may call Gil Yanuck, senior district coordinator, at 841-3675 or at gilcalif@att.net. For information about helping out in Dayton, call Tom Miller at 246-4726 or the Dayton Senior Center at 246-6210.
