130 YEARS AGO

Nothing amuses us more than the different ways people have of viewing us at the Appeal. We are "The Anti Everything Sheet," "A Little Publication in Carson," and "The Leading Republican Organ of the State." We have received much blame and praise, and we wish them all happy holidays.

100 YEARS AGO

Joe Kelly departed for Belmont last evening where he will enter the Dr. Gardner sanitarium. It is believed that a rest will be of great benefit to Joe, and his many friends hope to see him return recovered.

70 YEARS AGO

Well, it was happily possible for a number of Carson youngsters on Christmas Day to try out on the ice pond made available through the local Lions club. Pairs of bright, shiny skates left by Santa Claus were in use on the pond.

50 YEARS AGO

Carson City residents had the unique privilege of seeing a Warren Engine Co. engine chasing a fire down the street this morning when a garbage truck caught fire. That sight was only half true as the dump truck came to the station to dump the load so the fire could be extinguished.

20 YEARS AGO

Pat Bates is highlighted in an article on volunteerism in Carson City. Bates is the director of the Carson City Community Addiction Clinic.

10 YEARS AGO

After trustee Pete Livermore's stay at the Carson-Tahoe Hospital last April, he found the beds to be very uncomfortable. Today, Livermore can say the beds are comfy, after replacing 98 of the units. Other trustees have named the new beds, "Pete's Beds."

• Trent Dolan is the son of Bill Dolan, who wrote this column for the Nevada Appeal from 1947 until his death in 2006.
