Strictly Scuba swam to a new location this week, opening Tuesday in the Carson Mall.

After several years hidden on a cul-de-sac on South Curry Street, owners Mark and Julie Shiflet needed a change.

"We decided it was time to get some walk-by traffic and not be hidden back there," Mark Shiflet said.

Strictly Scuba, which has been in business for 18 years, sells and services scuba equipment, and offers certified instruction and travel bookings to dive spots around the world.

The remodeling of the mall and addition of new restaurants was a big part of their decision to move, according to Shiflet, and he said mall managers Joanne Holmes and Kevin Ray have done a great job revitalizing the place.

"We are so excited to have them move in, because the owners have such great energy," Ray said.

Ray said they soon will be announcing a new bakery that will move into the mall this year.

In addition to the bakery, Ray said a tropical theme restaurant and gift shop are opening in the coming months. The mall has one more spot Ray is trying to fill with a restaurant.

"My goal for the mall is to create a gathering place where people can connect," Ray said. "And it's working. It's been really great."
