A pit bull that attacked three dogs before being stabbed to death by a teenage boy did not show any aggression when it was picked up by animal control in September, the head of Carson City's Animal Services said Wednesday.

Pat Wiggins said that on Sept. 23, Officer Shadow Kelly collected the female pit bull in the same East Carson City neighborhood where Tuesday's attacks occurred. A man found the dog running loose and took it into his home until Kelly picked it up, said Wiggins.

"When she was with us, she was a very normal dog," Wiggins said. "There were no signs of aggression."

At that time, a woman came and paid the $20 impound fee, and the dog was released to her, he said. There were no other reports concerning the pit bull with his agency.

On Tuesday afternoon, a man on Ballarat Drive was outside changing a tire when the pit bull broke through his screen door and went after a dog in the living room.

The homeowner ran inside and beat the pit bull on its head, breaking his own hand, according to police dispatch logs.

The dog then ran outside and as the homeowner was calling police. It jumped a neighboring fence and killed a small dog there.

It was going after a Labrador when the Lab's teenage owner stabbed the pit bull to death with a steak knife.

Witnesses told deputies that the pit bull belonged to a home on Sherman Lane, but the police report was not complete Wednesday and the dog owner's name was not available.

Wiggins said the pit bull's body was taken by animal control and will be kept there should criminal charges be brought against the owner.
