Applicants have until 5 p.m. today to file for the vacant seat on the Carson City School Board.

The District 4 seat was left open by newly sworn-in Mayor Bob Crowell.

Anyone living within the boundaries of that district can drop off a letter of interest at the Carson City School District Office, 1402 W. King St.

Applicants will be interviewed at Tuesday's school board meeting, and a trustee will be chosen then.

John McKenna, who reached his term limit after serving 16 years on the board, encouraged parents to apply as his final words before his term ended Jan. 1.

"If a 60-some-odd bachelor with no kids can be on the school board, then parents with kids in the district should definitely be on it," he said at the time.

"I would hope that 20 to 30 parents would apply."

McKenna was replaced by Steven Reynolds, who also was sworn into office Monday.

A full-sized map of the districts is on display at the district office or can be found at www.carson-

city.nv.us/Index.aspx?page=92.
