Spring registration begins next week at WNC

Updating employment skills is more important than ever in today's uncertain economy. Spring classes at Western Nevada College offer everything from a chance at a new career to exploration of new languages and other academic subjects. Online registration continues for the spring term that begins Jan. 20 at the Carson City campus.

There's an introductory class on building inspection set to meet on Tuesdays, 7-9:45 p.m. Or, take the time to become trained in 911 dispatch. The class will meet 6-10 p.m. Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Those who prefer hands-on learning can learn job skills in a course on how to wire and install home entertainment systems, security systems and computer networks. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

For degree-seeking students or history lovers, several anthropology classes are offered, including cultural, physical, and a course on Mesoamerican archeology. The class introduces students to the archeology and prehistory of Mesoamerica, and includes the development of complex societies in Mexico and Central America. The class will meet Mondays and Wednesdays from 5:30-6:45 p.m.

Foreign languages offered this spring include Chinese, French, Italian, Russian and Spanish.

More than 1,000 spring classes are filling up at Western Nevada College's three campuses, five learning centers, and online. They range from traditional college courses in English, math, history and science to specialized technology and work force skills courses in dozens of areas.
