Free throw contest today

The Knights of Columbus Council No. 4781 will be holding their Local free-throw championship today at Carson Middle School (1140 W. King St.), from 10-11:30 a.m. All boys and girls 10-14 years of age are eligible. You can register and compete the day of competition. Entry is free. Winners of each age level will move on to district and regional competitions. For further information contact Gregg Swift at 882-7545.

ATA Black Belt Academy to host open house

Carson ATA Black Belt Academy Karate for Kids will host a free Kidz'n Power Child Safety Open House on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. The event is endorsed by amberalert.com and will include:

- simple break way self-defense moves

- how to recognize possible stranger dangers

- methods to deal with bullies

- child abduction safety tips

And everyone will go home with:

- child ID cards

- fingerprinting kits

- refreshments, Balloons and Prizes!

Also, the Carson City Sheriffs Department will be on hand to give more Info and tips that can be very helpful for the avoidance of negative situations kids encounter.

Carson high School baseball presents Poker Night

Carson High School baseball will be holding a Poker Night fundraiser on Feb. 20, from 6-10 p.m. located at the Plaza Hotel Conference Center. Buy-In is $60, with the tickets being sold for $25. Included in the price of your ticket is food and a live deejay. A No Host Bar we be on site as well. An opportunity to get some gifts and prizes and help support CHS baseball will be available during the silent auction and raffle drawing.

Volleyball clinics to be held

A volleyball clinic for sixth- to eighth-grade girls will be held Feb. 7-8 at Capital City Volleyball Club at 5680 Morgan Mill Rd. in Carson City. Coast is $30 for one session and $50 for both sessions.

Capital City Volleyball Club will also host a youth training league for third- to sixth-grade girls March 2-May 21. Cost is $150, which includes uniform.
