130 Years Ago:

"For keeps". After the adjournment of the Senate, a number of Senators congregated in the hall of the Capitol building and began pitching half dollars for "Keeps." The game caused more excitement than any bill yet introduced. It will be a proud moment for journalist and Democrats when they learn that Hon. George W. Cassidy, of the Eureka Sentinel, won all the loose silver of the crowd in twenty minutes.

110 Years Ago:

The last of the band of camels that were brought to the Comstock in 1863 died at Yuma, Arizona, recently and were eaten by Indians. The camels were brought to Virginia City from Asia Minor for the purpose of using the animals for transporting salt from Sand Springs, Churchill county. The salt was to be used in the stamp mills in the reduction of ore.

70 Years Ago:

50 Years Ago:

20 Years Ago:

President George W. Bush was a dynamo of action, there were no surprises to wipe the smile off his face, and he didn't have to make any tough decision in his first week as president.

10 Years Ago:

Nevada needs to spend more money in efforts to provide quality foster care. "Foster parents have to attend hearings every 90 days, have to attend training courses ... make medical appointments and get the kids to school," according to Patty Donatelli, president of the Sierra Association of Foster Families. Every foster home must have one stay-at-home parent, and are paid only $12.50 to $15 per child for a 24-hour day.
