Nancy Joyce Soong, 67, of Carson City, died July 3 in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was born March 1, 1942, in Westmont, Ill., to Rudy and LaFern Klena, who, along with Nancy's younger brother, Gary, have preceded her in death.

She received her degree from Saint Charles School of Nursing in 1964 and met her husband of 41 years, Dr. Colin Soong, while working in Denver. They eventually settled in Carson City, where they lived for 36 years. She worked in her husband's internal medicine practice and as a school nurse, volunteered at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community and for the Doctor's Wives Association, and helped found Carson High School's first Safe Grad Night in 1987.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her sister Sue Merriwether; and nephews Logan and Garret; brother Bill Klena and sister-in-law Karen; daughter Tammy Soong and son-in-law Ken Thunder; son Andrew Soong and daughter-in-law Sarah; and grandchildren, Ben, Ian, Avery, and Hannah. A Rosary will be said 7 p.m. Friday at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Community in Carson City, and memorial services will be at St. Teresa's at 9:30 a.m. Saturday. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to St. Teresa's Columbarium Fund or to St. Mary's Hospice.
