FERNLEY (AP) - Fernley Mayor Todd Cutler, who helped guide the city after a major 2008 flood, says he plans to resign to become superintendent of California's Lassen Union High School District.

Cutler became mayor in January 2007 and plans to leave before his four-year term expires in 2011.

He says he plans to resign because he was unable to find a suitable job in Fernley after budget cuts recently cost him his trainer job with the Western Nevada Regional Training Program.

He earned $14,000 as the city's part-time mayor.
