Fallon teen pleads not guilty to party sex charge

FALLON (AP) - A Fallon teenager accused of assaulting a girl at a party hosted by a former girls softball coach has pleaded not guilty to statutory sexual seduction.

Nineteen-year-old Jeffrey Lister, the son of a municipal judge, is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl at the January 2008 party. The girl told authorities she got drunk and was raped by as many as five boys.

Lister was the only one 18 years old and the only one charged.

A judge Tuesday set trial for Oct. 26. If convicted, Lister faces up a year in jail and a $2,000 fine.

Flood control project planned in Storey

RENO (AP) - As efforts proceed on a $1.5 billion Truckee River flood control project in Northern Nevada, a smaller project is planned to protect a downstream neighborhood from any adverse consequences.

Officials say the goal of the $1.5 million local effort is to ensure planned flood control improvements in the Reno-Sparks area don't heighten the risk to the Rainbow Bend community in Storey County.

Officials say the work will involve building a half-mile-long walkway south of the river. Later work planned as part of the larger, federally funded project, will include erection of a small flood wall.
