Moreno to sign new 'Nevada Curiosities'

Former Nevada Appeal columnist and Nevada Magazine publisher Richard Moreno will be at the Carson City Borders from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, to sign copies of his newest book, "Nevada Curiosities."

The book spotlights more than 135 of the state's most unusual places ranging from the famed Shoe Tree on the Loneliest Road in America (U.S. Highway 50) to the Neon Boneyard in Las Vegas, where old neon signs are put out to pasture.

Readers will learn where to find the world's most expensive drinks, a cafe devoted almost entirely to chocolate and the site of the world rock-paper-scissors championship.

Moreno wrote The Backyard Traveler column for the Nevada Appeal for nearly two decades. He currently is director of student publications and a journalism instructor at Western Illinois University. In 2007, he was honored with the Nevada Writers Hall of Fame Silver Pen Award.

The Carson City Borders Books is located at 911 Topsy Lane.
