A company has withdrawn its application with the state to build a coal-fired energy plant in White Pine County.

The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) had planned to hold hearings next week in Carson City about White Pine Energy Associates' application to build the White Pine Energy Station.

The commission said the company withdrew its application in a March 5 letter. The company said it wants to wait to get an air permit from the Nevada Division of Environmental Protection, according to the commission.

White Pine Energy Associates and Great Basin Transmission had filed an application to construct a 1,600-megawatt coal-fired electrical plant, two transmission lines, substations and other facilities in White Pine County.

NV Energy said last month that it was also indefinitely postponing a coal-fired plant of a similar size. The utility still plans to build a related transmission line connecting Northern and Southern Nevada.
