Security issues topic of Business Connections breakfast

Retired Navy Captain Robert Killion, a former member of President Reagan's National Security Council staff, will give a presentation on global security issues to the Nevada Business Connections' monthly networking breakfast on Thursday, March 19 at 8 a.m. at the Gold Dust West Resort.

Killion is now vice president of Secure Our Country Minden. The company is a provider of civilian security personnel for government and commercial customers world-wide, with over 5,600 employees presently in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Pho 8 restaurant celebrates first year with specials

The Pho 8 restaurant inside the Crossroads Shopping Center on East Winnie Lane opened its doors a year ago this month. And to celebrate, the restaurant is taking 10 percent off all lunches, and 20 percent off all dinners. Their happy hour specials from 5- 7 p.m. include all domestic beer $2 and import beers $3, and a big special on Heineken bottles for $1.50 each while supplies last. Wireless retailer closes 2 locations, opening 3 more

JC&C Wireless said last week it closed two retail locations in Reno and Sparks and is opening new stores in Gardnerville, Carson City and North Valleys. The company closed its stores at Kietzke Lane and South Virginia St. and D'Andrea Marketplace at Vista Way and Baring Blvd. due to declining sales.

A new location recently opened at Highway 395 and Waterloo Lane in Gardnerville, and the company's Carson City store will move to College Parkway and Highway 395 on April 1. A third new store is scheduled to open in North Valleys in July.


Young Business Professionals meeting features professor

Western Nevada College professor Bob Morin, Ph.D., will be the guest speaker at the Carson City Young Business Professionals meeting on Tuesday, March 24, from 5-7 p.m. at the Wells Fargo main branch, 2424 South Carson Street. NNDA breakfast features talk about banks and money

The Northern Nevada Development Authority's monthly membership breakfast on March 25 will delve into the issue of the current state of banking on Nevada. Bill Uffelman, president/CEO of the Nevada Bankers Association will moderate the discussion, with panelists John Guedry, executive vice president, City National Bank; Stan Wilmoth, president, Heritage Bank; and Kevin Sullivan, executive vice president, Nevada State Bank. The event begins at 7 a.m. at Dayton Valley Country Club. Cost is $20 for pre-paid members, and $35 at the door.

Mobile recreation van to be unveiled by chamber

Chamber of Commerce Quality of Life Committee will unveil the Partnership Carson City Mobile Recreation Van on March 25 at 2 p.m. at the corner of Hot Springs Road and Northgate. This is a joint project between Partnership Carson City, Boys and Girls Club, the Carson Chamber and Victory Christian Center.

Those on hand will include Mayor Bob Crowell, Sheriff Kenny Furlong, District Attorney Neil Rombardo and Miss Nevada.


Remodeler's Council hosting seminar on new lead rules

Join the Builders Association of Western Nevada Remodeler's Council on Thursday, March 26 at 3 p.m. for an audio seminar presented by the National Association of Home Builders that explains how the EPA's new lead rule will change the way you do business.

If you do almost any kind of construction or installation work inside homes or child occupied facilities built before 1978, you need to know about the EPA's new rule, which will become mandatory in April 2010.
