Last evening Sam Davis of the Virginia Chronicle passed through to attend the funeral of Chester H. Hull, who died suddenly yesterday. Hull spent a short while on the Comstock and became quite popular with his humoristic letters from Virginia City to the San Francisco journals. His death has created a void in the journalistic profession that will be hard to fill.

110 years ago

Overplayed their hand. The secrets of the Mint steal gradually coming out. An ex-employee of the Mint refinery has been talking to a reporter about the theft. "The salting of the acid tanks and potato patch, the latter at the end of the mint sewer - particularly the former was a fatal mistake made by the thieves, for as soon as a liberal supply of gold was found in the acid tanks, the investigation experts knew it had been placed there by design."

Mr. And Mrs. Joe Vest have moved into the house at 212 South Minnesota Street they purchased from W. H. Austin.

50 years ago

A temblor registering six on the Richter scale rolled through Carson today. The earthquake, some 45 miles northwest of Carson, lasted for some 15 minutes. No major damage was reported.

Authorities have issued an arrest warrant for the tanker captain that ran a tanker aground in Valdez, Alaska causing a 1,000 square mile oil slick.

Gov. Kenny Guinn drew a line in the sand over his election cry of "no new taxes" by vetoing a real estate division training fee of $50.
