A Gold Hill man was killed in a single-vehicle accident on State Route 341 late Friday.

Bret Vernon Martin, 42, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 10 p.m. accident one mile from the Mound House junction with Highway 50 East near the Chocolate Factory.

According to Trooper Chuck Allen, Martin was northbound when he "drifted across the double-yellow line, over the southbound lane and then onto the west shoulder."

Allen said Martin's 1992 Ford Ranger struck two markers posts, and Martin overcorrected. The vehicle rolled and Martin was ejected.

Martin was the sole occupant of the vehicle. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
