Obituary: Ray Boyd Alexander

Ray Boyd Alexander, 73, a resident of Carson City, went home to be with the Lord May 12, 2009 at his home.

He was born Sept. 19, 1937 the oldest of five children, to Leola Koontz and Boyd Alexander in Fullerton, Calif. In 1978, Ray married Leona Phipps. They moved to Carson City in 1980 and were transferred back to California in 1984. After Ray's retirement with AT&T, they returned to Carson City in 1994. Ray was very involved with his church, the First United Methodist Church. He loved to cook and work around the house. He was a friend to all who knew him and had a heart of gold. Everyone who knew Ray loved him. He will be remembered for his generosity and his insatiable laugh.

Ray is survived by his wife Leona of Carson City; daughters and sons-in-law Wendy Phipps and Chris Smith of Maryland, Jennifer and James Lopez (James is currently serving in Iraq) of Wyoming, and Cathy and Paul Walker of Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Brendan, Connor, Amber, Raymond, Chrystal and Christine, brothers and sisters-in-law Howard and Maureen Alexander, John and Linda Alexander, Deanna Furtney, and Claudia Casagrande. Sister-in-law and brother-in-law Peter and Barbara Bianco and their children Bob and Mary Jane.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday at the First United Methodist Church, 400 W. King St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to SASS (Youth Scholarship Fund), 23255 La Palma, Yorba Linda, CA 92887 or the United Methodist Church. FitzHenry's Funeral Home is caring for arrangements.
