Kop graduates from University of California-Berkeley School of Law

Carson City resident Allison Kop, daughter of Susan and Sheldon Kop graduated from the University of California-Berkeley School of Law May 16, 2009 with a degree of juris doctor. She is a 2002 graduate of Carson High School. She graduated magna cum laude from St. Mary's College of California, where she was a four-year starter for Division I women's soccer team. She will join the law firm of Gibson, Dunn and Crutcher, based in San Francisco this fall.

Local students place in auto competition

This year, 20 Nevada high school students representing 10 automotive technology programs competed in the American Automobile Association/Ford Student Auto Skills competition at John Ascuaga's Nugget, Sparks.

Students Thomas Greene and Ryan Dawson with their instructor Richard Evans of Churchill High School placed second in the competition while Ryan Combs and Chris Fleischmann and instructor Cade Baligad of Douglas High School received third place.

The competition begins with an online exam. The 10 highest scoring two-person teams advanced to the state finals. A combination of the online examine results and hands-on competition score determines the state's championship team.
