Another Carson City student has a confirmed case of swine flu.

The Nevada State Health Lab confirmed a positive sample from a fifth-grade Empire Elementary School student Thursday, the school district said in a statement.

This is the fifth confirmed case of the H1N1 virus in Carson City.

The student is home recovering from a mild form of the H1N1 virus, the district said.

Empire Elementary will not close under recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control and prevention, according to the district.

"We're trying to follow our protocol and make sure we're doing all the things we did with our first student," Super-intendent Richard Stokes said in a phone interview.

A fourth-grade Mark Twain Elementary School student had one of the first two cases of the virus reported May 6.

Stokes said the district is sending students home with flu-like symptoms. Parents should keep students home with such symptoms, he said.

Students should use good hygiene to avoid the spread of the virus, he said. The district is keeping schools thoroughly cleaned to try to stop the spread of the virus, he said.

All but one of the cases in the city have been minors. A 22-year-old had the first case confirmed in an adult Tuesday.

More than 92 cases of the virus have been confirmed in Nevada. No deaths in the state have been reported from the virus.
