Hardesty announces for second term

Chief Justice Jim Hardesty said he will run for a second term on the Nevada Supreme Court.

Hardesty was elected to the court in 2004 after serving as a Washoe district judge.

He said the court has made progress over the past few years, becoming more efficient with people's money and deciding cases in a more timely manner.

Hardesty received his undergraduate degree from UNR, where he was student body president his senior year. He earned his law degree at University of the Pacific's McGeorge School of Law then returned to Reno to practice law.

Faulty equipment

causes power outage

A power outage that affected about 2,000 West Carson City residents Wednesday night was caused by a faulty piece of equipment at the Curry Street substation, an NV Energy official said Thursday.

The Wednesday outage lasted from 8:40 p.m. to 9:49 p.m., said Faye Andersen, a spokeswoman for NV Energy.

On Thursday, inspectors found the piece of equipment responsible for the outage, which crews were repairing during the day.
