Nobody Asked Us, But ... Fly your flags high for the veterans

Celebrate our veterans on Wednesday, Veterans Day, by flying your flag and telling our servicemen and women how much you appreciate them. They never tire of hearing that. Unfortunately, too many of our service personnel still are dying in Afghanistan and Iraq. Nevada lost two young men in the last couple of weeks in Afghanistan, Pfc. Kevin Thompson, 22, and Sgt. Josue E. Hernandez Chavez, 23. Our deepest sympathies go out to their families and friends. And our thank you's to all who are serving, or have served. You are special to all of us.

RPEN is having its annual Christmas party at 11 a.m. Dec. 2 at Casino Fandango. It's $14 per person, and reservations can be made by calling Rowena at 882-6368. There will be door prizes and entertainment, too ... and a good time will be had by all.

The new work on Stewart Street and South Curry Street is looking goooood. Take a spin on both and check out the progress ... smooth and curvy (like a hot date). Skip Thurman is celebrating the arrival of his new granddaughter, Herra. She joins her 2 1/2 year old brother, Calder, in Los Angeles. She's a beautiful baby, and "somebody" is terribly proud. Happy Birthdays go out to Michelle Olson and Elder Ray ... older, wiser, and very charming.

Sandy Ritz told us this one: "Seems Morris was told by his doctor that he only had 24 hours to live. He is dreadfully sad, but tells his wife he wants to make love to her in the time he has left. For the next several hours, they make passionate love, but get tired and nod off. He wakes up, it's still dark, and turns to his wife for one last embrace. She, however, turns him down. 'How can you deny me?' Morris asks. She looks at him and replies, 'I have to get up this morning. You don't.'"

BIG SCOOP: Carolyn was in Kohl's last week and they told her they were coming to Carson ("probably" in the old Mervyn's store ... but they didn't rule out Gottschalks, either) by July 2010. Good news for those who like a wide variety of choices.

We see that one of our favorite judges is retiring soon. Judge Robey Willis is hanging up his robes after many years as JP (except for occasional "guest appearances" in courts when they need him). This way, he'll have more time to golf with Barb. Have a great retirement, Robey!

A note to remember our dear friend, Linda Hall, who passed away eight years ago ... we still miss you. And former CHS coach (and C's vice-principal), Harry Dickson, died last week. He was a great guy.

Lucy Adams found this one on the Internet: "A man decided he would like to buy his wife some lingerie for their anniversary, so he went into Victoria's Secret and saw a beautiful sheer negligee. It cost $500, but he decided it was worth it. He took it home to his wife and asked her to model it. She went into the bathroom, and thought, 'This is so sheer, he won't know if I have it on or not. That way, I can return it tomorrow and get the money for it.' With that thought, she came out of the bathroom stark naked, posed for him and said, 'How do you like it?' He looked at her, and replied, 'Gee, for that money, you'd think they would have ironed it.' The funeral will be held Friday."

M went to a wonderful wedding last Friday. Ryan Rothchild and Deborah MacDermaid were married. Ryan is a lieutenant in the Army, specializing in Arabic languages, and was the CHS band director for one year prior to enlisting. His wife, Deb, was a BLM firefighter, is a nationally ranked judo third-degree black belt, and is currently finishing her helicopter instrument and instructor ratings. The reception was a blast ... old friends, great food and music, and deeeelicious cake (What? No ice cream?). Just a lovely evening ... and best wishes to the happy couple.

It's been a lovely fall, but get ready for snow and winter. Brrrrrr.
