Democratic Women to meet Saturday

The Carson City Democr-atic Women's Club will meet at noon Saturday at Grandma Hattie's Restaur-ant.

Special guests include David Osolnick, who will give an update on activity in the Obama grassroots support group, Organizing For America.

Reno Arch going green with LED bulbs

RENO (AP) - The Reno Arch is going green.

City officials will host a ceremony Tuesday to mark the replacement of the downtown landmark's incandescent bulbs with more energy efficient LED bulbs.

The arch, which proclaims Reno as "The Biggest Little City in the World," has 2,076 incandescent bulbs.

Mayor Bob Cashell and state Office of Energy Director Jim Groth are among those who will preside over the ceremony that's scheduled to begin at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

The project is part of the city's $20 million energy efficiency and renewable energy initiative.

NV High Court ousts appointed judge

(AP) - The Nevada Supreme Court says a Clark County Family Court judge must vacate the bench because his temporary appointment expired months ago.

Judge Robert Teuton was appointed by Gov. Jim Gibbons to fill a vacancy in August 2008. The Supreme Court says under the Nevada Constitution, he was only allowed to serve until the first Monday in January following last November's general election.

But the seat wasn't placed on last fall's ballot, and Teuton continued to serve.

Former Family Court Judge Robert Lueck filed a lawsuit challenging Teuton's continued service without an election.

While justices said Lueck lacked legal standing in the case, they agreed Teuton cannot remain on the bench.

The court directed that Gibbons be notified that the seat is vacant.
